Announcing Planning for 60th Class Reunion – 2019

Lee Woldenberg has volunteered to begin planning our next reunion.  If we wait until 2019, it would be our 60th Class Reunion.  However, some have suggested that we might consider holding the next reunion sooner — in view of our approaching mortality!  Also, some have suggested we consider holding the reunion in the early Fall, rather than our traditional time in the Summer.

Under the menu tab above labelled “Discussion about our 60th Reunion” are notices, comments, replies, etc. all pertaining to the planning of our 60th Reunion in 2019.

We invite you to either (a) post your opinions there (just go to Discussion about our 60th Reunion and post your comment or reply), or (b) send email to Lee at lwoldenberg@gmail.com.  If you would like to help Lee in planning the next reunion, I’m sure he would welcome your participation; just send him a note to sign up.

Obituary:

Kravat, Judy

MADISON – Judy Kravat died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, on her birthday, in Madison, Wis. Judy was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Feb. 17, 1943, to Erwin and Elaine Sackin, and came to UW-Madison for college. She met her husband, Jeff, because her sorority and his fraternity were next door to each other. They married on the day after Christmas in 1964 after she graduated with a BA in Art History and Art. Judy was the love of Jeff’s life for over 51 years.

Her family and friends were always the most important things in the world to Judy because her heart was always full of goodness. She loved her friends like family and they returned her positive feelings. She was a devoted wife to Jeff, amazing mother to daughters, Stephanie Pyke (Duste) and Jenny Kravat (Mikki), and a spectacular grandmother to Matt Connery and his girlfriend, Melanie. She was a caring daughter, sister and aunt. Judy became ordained so that she was able to marry Stephanie and Duste in the backyard.

Judy had a number of important jobs and leadership positions in various charitable organizations. She was a medical tech specialist contracting with various college and university campuses and state agencies. As a bank teller she helped put Jeff through law school and then years later, when her children were grown, she worked side-by-side with Jeff in his career. She was president of the Mental Health Association of Dane County and volunteered regularly at Hadassah Collector’s Corner and with Jeff delivered Meals on Wheels and worked for Second Harvest Food Bank. She was very active in Temple Beth El, serving on the board of directors and as president of the Sisterhood and on many different temple committees.

Judy loved to have fun. She was a superb bridge player with Masters points, an excellent gourmet cook and a wonderful hostess. She helped compile and edit Temple Beth El’s successful Beth Elegant Cookbook. She loved to travel with Jeff, and with friends, to such exotic places as the Greek Islands, Turkey, Madeira, Portugal, the Caribbean and on a Viking Cruise from Bucharest to Amsterdam. Judy lived a full, joyous life.

They spent 39 happy years in the Parkwood Hills home Judy and Jeff built in 1971. Once Grandson Matt was in school, he and his friends would come to Grandma and Grandpa’s house and do their homework and play football. Matt, who became the varsity quarterback at Memorial High School, taught his doting Grandma to throw a spiral and she had him running routes. The whole family has always been Badgers and Packers fans. For the last six years they have loved their new home and friends at Sauk Creek Condos. Often Judy would wake up in the morning, look around and say, “Another day in paradise.”

Throughout her illness, Jeff and their daughters were at Judy’s side (as always) – cooking her favorite foods, taking fall color day trips, never missing her numerous meds and seeing to it she followed her doctor’s plan – hoping for a miracle.

Besides her immediate family, Judy is survived by her father, Erwin Sackin, age 100 (a World War II Naval Officer stationed in the Pacific); sister, Patricia Nelson (Steve); brother, Andrew Sackin; nieces and nephews and too many loving friends to count.

A Memorial Service filled with music will be held at TEMPLE BETH EL, 2702 Arbor Drive, Madison, on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at 4:30 p.m. with dinner to follow. Cantor Deborah Martin officiating.

Contributions in her memory can be made to Second Harvest. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at University Hospital and Agrace HospiceCare for their compassionate care.

“Put your arms around anyone and give them what you need to give me. I want to leave you with something, something better than words or sounds. Look for me in the people I have known and loved. And if you cannot live without me, let me live on in your eyes, your mind and acts of kindness. Love does not die, people do. So when all that is left of me is love… Give me away.”

More Reunion Photos Posted

Alan Scheffer has contributed his portraits of reunion classmates and spouses and more photos from the reunion events have been posted on the website.   Please go to the 55th Reunion page and check out the new photos. Alan took multiple pictures of many who attended the reunion; only one photo of each person is posted on this website.  Alan’s other photos of our classmates can be found in the WisHighReunionPhotos Dropbox folder.  (see below)

We still need photos from some of the Saturday reunion events — the golf outing, the Farmer’s Market & Capitol stroll, and the Ice Age Trail hike.  If you took pictures at these (or other reunion) events, please put them in the WisHighReunionPhotos Dropbox folder.  (see below)

All the posted photos are low-resolution copies, to facilitate the loading of pictures over slow internet connections.  However all (most) photos have high-resolution versions that are available in the Dropbox folder WisHighReunionPhotos.  If you have already installed Dropbox on your computer and accepted my invitation to share this folder, these high-resolution copies are actually on your computer now.  If you have either not installed Dropbox nor accepted my invitation to share the photo folder, you will need to do both to gain access to the high-definition and the rest of the un-posted photos.

First, accept my invitation to share the photo folder.  If you do not have the email inviting you to share the folder, please send me an email (tgroves@ucsd.edu) and I’ll send you an invitation.  If you need to install Dropbox, when you try to accept the invitation to share the photo folder, you’ll be asked to install Dropbox first.  Just follow the instructions.  It is a free program, universally used, and almost as essential as a browser itself.  If you have any problems, email me (tgroves@ucsd.edu).

Enjoy!

Reunion Group Photos

I attach two group photos taken Friday evening at the Blackhawk Country Club.    These are posted here to encourage you to look for others under the page entitled “Fifty-fifth Reunion: News and Photos”.  That page will be continually revised and better organized as more pictures are received. (Clicking on a photo will open a window with a larger version of the photo. Clicking twice will enlarge the photo more.)

FINAL PRE-REUNION NEWS AND WEATHER UPDATE: Thursday, July 24th

Weather Forecast for Reunion Weekend (updated Thursday, 1:30 pm)

The weather forecast for this weekend in Madison is  40% showers on Friday afternoon, with temperatures ranging from a low of 66 to a high of 78.

On Saturday, there is only a 10% chance of showers, but it will be warm — a high of 85 and a low of 64.  I expect Saturday to be muggy, though, with wind only 9 mph.

On Sunday, the expected chance of rain increases to 30% with moderating temperatures of a high of 79 and a low of 56.  Breezes will be at 15 mph.

Although the probability of rain has decreased for Saturday, if any Friday rain lingers,  you might want to be prepared for rain during the Saturday morning strolls/hikes/walks.

Although we don’t expect rain later on Saturday,  Donna is well prepared with a large tent in her backyard. And if it gets too wet or uncomfortable outdoors, she has offered her indoors as well.
